Our take on the popular gin cocktail from the 1930s, the "Corpse Reviver #2", a prohibition era classic.
Originally crafted as a "hair of the dog" remedy, intended to revive the spirits of those who indulged the night before, The Corpse Reviver #2 gained popularity among cocktail enthusiasts for its complex yet balanced flavours
Ingredients For Two Servings
- 30ml Cygnet 22 gin
- 30ml Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
- 30ml Lillet Blanc (or Cocchi Americano)
- 30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Absinthe (for rinsing the glass)
- Lemon twist for garnish
Method
- Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
- Add the Cygnet 22 gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, and freshly squeezed lemon juice to the shaker.
- Shake well until all ingredients are chilled.
- Rinse a chilled coupe glass with a small amount of absinthe, then discard the excess.
- Strain the cocktail into the prepared coupe glass.
- Garnish with a lemon twist, expressing the oils over the drink before dropping it in.
Despite its early origins as a hangover cure, the Corpse Reviver has stood the test of time and remains a much loved classic cocktail. Its recent revival in modern cocktail culture speaks to its timeless appeal and enduring legacy.
